Restoration of the greenhouse and park after Russian shelling at the territory of Sanatorium School-Internat No. 21 in Pushcha-Vodytsia (Kyiv).
Problem
We plan to restore the park and rebuild the greenhouse at the territory of Sanatorium School-Internat No. 21 in Pushcha-Vodytsia, Kyiv. Due to Russian shelling, the communications and windows of the greenhouse were damaged, and the neglected park area needs restoration. This project is very important for the rehabilitation of children deprived of parental care.
Solution
The old greenhouse is beyond reconstruction due to its emergency condition, so we will build it from scratch — with an additional heating space, lighting, irrigation, and shelves.
Together with the director of the educational institution and the leader of the green club, we decided to make the greenhouse as functional as possible so that children could engage in it year-round during practical science lessons aimed at increasing physical activity and developing healthy eating skills.
In addition to the greenhouse itself, the surrounding area will also be developed. The large area next to the orphanage used to serve as a sports ground, but the exercise equipment is outdated and the space has become overgrown with bushes. We plan to restore the park in a fairytale style, install a children’s playground, create walking paths, set up shaded rest areas, and add new exercise equipment and sculptures. The recreational park is intended to become a comfortable and safe space for children, featuring a modern zone for motor and sensory activities.
Importance of the project
Resting outdoors and interacting with plants greatly contributes to the mental health of children, especially in a state of war.
Working with plants calms, develops fine motor skills, and helps children with special needs integrate into various areas of life. The director of the Sanatorium School-Internat No. 21, Lydia Moroz, mentioned that in the future, children often choose careers related to gardening, landscaping, and agriculture, so we want to help them continue moving in this direction. The new greenhouse and well-maintained green park will allow children to:
- Study natural sciences
- Care for plants all year round
- Develop eco-habits
- Play and engage in sports
Let’s close our eyes and imagine for a moment that we can change everything. Let’s believe in the dream ourselves and show the children that dreaming is worth it.
