Establishing drinking water points after the rocket attack on Mykolaiv: water delivery, drilling wells, connecting systems and equipment.
Problem
In mid-April 2022, the city of Mykolaiv was hit by a Russian rocket strike. As a result of the damage to the Dnipro-Mykolaiv water pipeline, the half-million city was left without drinking water.
Water delivery
In August, we installed 3 barrels of 5 tons each and filled them with clean water about once every 5 days. People came from the nearest houses and collected free drinking water for cooking and hygiene needs.
Thanks to your donations, our efforts, and the help of the Kyiv Volunteer Foundation, we collected over 140,000 hryvnias.
The money was spent towards purchasing containers, equipment, logistics, and setting up the drinking water distribution point.
We set up a distribution point for 15,000 liters, which provides water for over 3,000 people daily. We spent 72,000 hryvnias on this project.
During the implementation of the project, we met caring and determined people who helped our team. Thanks to this, we saved 69,500 hryvnias.
Setting up drinking water distribution points
At that time, we started thinking about water supply during the winter period when it would not be possible to fill the water tanks, and began preparing for the opening of the first well:
- We raised funds.
- We received permission to drill.
- We ordered equipment.
- We connected to the system.
- We arranged the access to the water.
THE FIRST DRINKING WATER SYSTEM IN MYKOLAIV WAS CONNECTED IN NOVEMBER 2022.
We thank Maksym Kovalenko for his help in obtaining documents and permits for drilling and installing systems in the city’s communal enterprises, particularly for connecting and transferring the system to the balance of kindergarten No. 83. A special thanks to the Ukrainian water filter manufacturer Organic Filter for providing the equipment at cost price.
At the beginning of January 2023, another drinking water distribution point was launched thanks to the funds collected by Ivan Dorn and all concerned Ukrainians. This is 630,000 UAH!
We purchased 2 more filtration systems and started working on the equipment for the second drinking water point: we drilled a well, renovated the building, insulated the walls, replaced the roof, and installed new doors.
Moreover, we connected this system to the water supply of school No. 46, which allows cooking meals for students with clean water. This is a significant saving of time and money that was previously spent on water delivery. Plus, there is a reduction in fuel costs and the large amount of plastic containers that pollute the environment. Additionally, there is no need to involve many people for loading and unloading the water.
We express immense gratitude to the Vinnytsia cocktail bar “Polunochniki” for joining the fundraising and transferring part of the sum from each sold cocktail to Monobank for a whole month. Voluntary donations from visitors also contributed, which further boosted the campaign’s momentum and raised 45,279 UAH!
